      Refurbished with an extended bar in February 2016, this modern building on the main A684 is decorated in “olde worlde” style, with bar and restaurant areas connected but separate. It serves caravanners at the adjacent site and is also open to the public. In summer a second outside bar is also opened. There is an outside seating area with tables next to a bowling green and a heated smoking area with seats. Golf course adjacent.

      A three-roomed family-run pub, at the top of the main street of the village, which attracts a good mix of locals and visitors, and is particularly popular for its bar meals sourced from local suppliers. The interior has been partly opened out but retains much of its traditional character, with a very impressive range in the cosy snug, and open fires to warm cold walkers seeking shelter from the fells. Check website for separate winter opening hours. As with many of the branch's rural pubs even in high season opening times may change so worth checking beforehand. Take-away pies available.

      This historic Grade II listed Dales free house of great character starred as The Drover's Arms in the original 'All Creatures Great and Small'. A huge open fireplace and a painting of the local friendly society add character to the stone-flagged bar. There are separate dining rooms plus a vaulted games room to the rear and a small outdoor courtyard. Three house beers are from the Yorkshire Dales brewery, half a mile away from the pub. Part of the Holiday Property Bond chain.

      Now officially known by its local name ‘the middle house’ it has three large and comfortable rooms with a conservatory-style dining room and beer garden at the rear. As with many of the branch's rural pubs even in high season opening times may not be reliable so worth checking beforehand.

      This imposing building on the main A684 is a few hundred yards above the famous Aysgarth falls. A residential hotel, it has a public bar serving up to five real ales from local and regional brewers, its own fishing stretch on the River Ure, and a campsite to the rear. The guest ales are usually from local breweries. Bought in October 2021 by Barnsley-based Brook Leisure Group. Opening hours may change according to season.

      Less than a mile from the spectacular Aysgarth falls, this 17th-century coaching inn also offers en-suite accommodation. The cosy bar serves up to five real ales, usually including two from the local Yorkshire Dales brewery, and there is a separate restaurant and outside drinking area.Winter hours apply.

      A large whitewashed building overlooking the village green which claims to trace its origins back to 1445. The low-beamed stone flagged bar is frequented by locals and has a pool table, TV and juke box. Other small rooms with old oak furniture are used by diners and there is a separate restaurant. There is an outdoor drinking area to the rear and tables at the front look onto the site of the Roman fort.

      Quirky small bar accessed up steps from narrow courtyard off the Market Place (between Cop-op and Post Office). Regular music nights take place in the bar, which features bare floorboards and exposed beams. A further room is up another flight of stairs and outside is a pleasant patio area. The two hand pumps always feature well-kept Pennine Brewery beers. A bit of a hidden gem.

      Welcoming 17th Century free house in an attractive village just off the A19 trunk route. Although doors have been removed the design gives the impression of a multi-roomed pub, and the low-beamed ceiling of the two main rooms gives a very traditional feel. The There are generally two guest beers on tap, usually from smaller Yorkshire breweries, for which the landlord is a keen advocate. Outside is a large beer garden, with one or two beer festivals a year. Currently does not do food. Hosts Community Dog Walk every two months.

      Worth seeking out, this 250-year-old free house is named after the Foresters friendly society, a mutual aid body for local people in this picturesque area. It is on the Dales cycle route and convenient for the Forbidden Corner eccentric folly garden (advanced booking essential). In community ownership since 2011, the pub's low-beamed ceilings and open fire contribute to its character, with wooden settles fashioned from pews from the former village church.

      Vixen Pubs (linked to Stonegate) pub adjacent to Thirsk rail station, modernised into one knocked-through opened-out bar, comfortably decorated. Outside drinking area to the front. Carlton Minniott is a long linear village, stretching for nearly 2 kilometres from Thirsk Station west along the A61. The Vale of York is in the eastern half of the village, close to Thirsk railway station. Breakfasts served every morning between 10 and 12.

      Smart but unpretentious restaurant and wedding venue, adjacent to The Forbidden Corner tourist attraction on the Tupgill Park Estate. Converted from former racing stables, the comfortable, wood-dominated, bar can be visited without having to enter The Forbidden Corner. Locally sourced food has a strong reputation, as does the quality of its wine cellar. The beers are also always from Yorkshire breweries. Closed until 19th January..

      Pleasant free house facing onto the picturesque village green. The interior has been opened out into one main lounge with a smaller room running off it. The bay windows form cosy alcoves. Opens early on Friday evening for fish and chips. The pub is also HQ to the village cricket team, which plays on the green on the other side of the road. Tables outside overlook the green and the quoits pitch. Focus of numerous community events.

      A much-appreciated inn on the 192-mile Coast-to-Coast route, this village green pub offers a warm welcome to walkers and locals alike. The opened-out interior features a stone floor and wood-burning stoves and is home to the local sword dancers. Two ciders and a perry are usually available. Food is available April-October and geared to walkers' needs, with hearty evening meals using much locally-sourced produce, although booking is advisable. Winter hours vary and are much more limited (closed Mondays, open evenings only Tues-Fridays and closed Saturday and Sunday afternoons).

      Eight beer pumps adorn the bar of this multi-CAMRA-award winning 17th-centry country inn with unspoilt public bar, including its splendid hearth and open fire, tiny lounge and attractive garden with riverside play area. The pub offers excellent home-cooked food; the ham and eggs has a strong following. The car park is across the road. Middleham Castle and Jervaulx Abbey are both within a mile or two, accessible along riverside walks, although unfortunately the latter has closed its famed tea-rooms.

      Hardraw Force, England's highest single-drop waterfall, is located in the grounds of this old pub of character, and you can visit the spectacular attraction for a small fee.       Large and smart hotel situated on Buttertubs road out of Hawes. The bar is open to the public and offers three cask beers, all from local breweries. There is also a very good selection of malt whiskies and vodkas, along with a 'gin library'. There is a beautiful view from the terrace garden over the Ure valley to Hawes and the hills beyond.

      In a tiny Swaledale village where the Pennine Way and Coast to Coast path meet this former youth hostel opened at Easter 2007 to become Keld’s first pub since temperance campaigners bought and closed the Cat Hole Inn in 1954. Offers B&B and a 40-seat restaurant with food 7 days a week and a conservatory-style terrace with stunning views across the hills plus a tiny traditional style bar. Popular with outdoor enthusiasts and with arranged walking holidays. It is also served by baggage couriers. The remote location means it closes from November to February inclusive, apart from Christmas/ New Year period between Dec.27th and Jan 2nd, from 12-5pm.

      Attractive inn on market square offering a good range of local beers, but also popular with diners, especially for its excellent Sunday carvery. The front of the pub has two open rooms aimed mainly at customers wanting food. Further back lies the cosy bar generally used by local drinkers, with an adjacent snug. Has a good sized external area at the rear as well as tables at the front facing the square. Although closed on Mondays, it is still open to residents. Warning: out of season many pubs in the branch area may close early if they have no customers in.

      Set off the main market place, at the junction of the moor road and the Richmond road, this locals' pub is a rare example of a wet-led house in this tourist region, with three separate areas offering a selection of well-kept cask ales at attractive prices. An enthusiastic provider of sports tv, especially football, which is well-supported, and supplier of regular live music. Pool table, two darts boards, fruit machines, open fires and the only jukebox in town. Guest beer usually from a local brewery. Warning: out of season, many pubs in the branch area may close early if there are no customers in.

      Named after the 1945 Derby winner trained in Middleham when the race took place for the only time at Newmarket, this pub changed its name in 2018. In the shadow of Richard III’s historic castle this split-level pub on the village square has character aplenty with exposed beams and a separate dining room. Tables on cobbles at front, and breakfast can be had watching and listening to the racehorses trot by. Snack lunches only until February 11th.

      Immaculately run but welcoming traditional village inn in an idyllic former lead-mining village near the head of Swaledale. Popular with walkers, cyclists and other visitors, who are often tackling the nearby Coast-to-Coast and Pennine Way routes. The stone-flagged, much-wooded bar is warmed by an open fire and has a cabinet of breweriana. Farmer's Brewery is in-house, and the owners also own Haworth Steam Brewery.

      Hidden behind the Parish Church by the cemetery gates, the Oddies does not appear to be on the High Street, despite its address. A thriving back street community pub, it handles a mainly local trade and is popular with darts players, tv football fans and church bell ringers. Refurbished in a simple but traditional style with an open-plan interior, there is a games room upstairs and a secluded beer garden to the rear. Changing beers often include Ossett White Rat and Wensleydale Semer Water .

      Just off the busy High Street, in the premises of the former Tithe Bar, this smart bar opened in late 2021 marketed as a "small plates restaurant bar". The focus is on tapas-style food, served both in the downstairs bar and the upstairs restaurant. However, drinkers are made very welcome, and can choose from up to four well-kept ales on hand pump, usually including a blonde and a golden/pale ale, as well as a range of interesting keg craft beers and wine from an extensive wine list.       Set in the centre of a picturesque village on the edge of the North York Moors National Park and at the start of the long-distance Lyke Wake Walk, this old inn is popular with hikers, casual visitors and locals. Much of the focus is on high quality locally-sourced food but drinkers are always made welcome (tables inside may be reserved, but can be used up to close before the reserved time) and the view from the outside drinking tables makes them popular on fine days. Regularly changing beers are from local breweries. Dogs are welcome with well-behaved owners.

      This attractive village is less than a mile from, and is the closest pub to, the historic Bolton Castle. Until some thirty years ago this was the dale's last working farm-pub. Now it has been opened out, with three distinct areas: a carpeted dining room; a wooden-floored central section used mainly for eating; and a stone-flagged bar. Of the three changing handpumps two feature rotating beers from Wensleydale and Pennine, with the third handed over to locals' requests.       Originally a coaching inn, the pub is sited prominently at the top of the green, and is therefore also known as 'the top house'. It retains many original features with beamed ceilings, an open fire and an ice house. In high season meals may be served later than the usual times, and all meals are on a first-come first-served basis. Discount available for CAMRA members.       Near the foot of the Market Square The Castle is a friendly pub serving up to four real ales, one real cider and good value food in long knocked-through main room with a separate side room. Used to offer real ales sourced mostly from Yorkshire breweries, but after a recent change in ownership national beers seem to be making inroads.

Once a rest house for 15th century Jervaulx Abbey monks, it has a pleasant patio at the rear; beware the tight entry to the car park. Full name is Fox and Hounds, but known to locals as The Fox to distinguish it from the Fox and Hounds in West Burton further up the dale. New tenants took over October 2023.
